This series of monotypes is an exploration of colour and abstract expressionism.
For this series, I chose to make art without a narrative or theme.
I used a recycled textile fibre as a drawing tool to create marks, build layers and overlap colour. The fluidity of the material was allowed to fall and drape on the plate without being too conscious of the design formation, so it felt organic and authentic.
Working spontaneously and instinctively took me beyond any prior boundaries to redefine how I would make surface images in the future. Final impressions reveal unknown aspects and surprising combinations.
Monotype is a process for creating immediate marks that can be linear and painterly, and each artwork has a unique characteristic and textural quality.
Original works on paper (unframed) are signed, dated and titled by me (25cm x 20cm).
